Quickly becoming my favorite channel, John Rawls is a legend and his Veil
of Ignorance is one of the best ways to envisage a more equal and fair
    society

I remember a thought experiment in my school where we were tasked with
creating a society, but we didn’t know ahead of time if we’d be on the
bottom rung or the top rung of that society. Seems my Social Studies
    teacher had been studying Rawls.

For any of you writers out there. There’s a great exercise in here call the
“veil of ignorance” thought experiment. While i was watching it i thought,
“what a great way to imagine a future society”. Just throwing it out there.
Maybe it will help someone. The School of Life channel on YouTube has vids
on the greatest minds in humanity, summed up into 6 min, easy to digest
    vids.

Again, pedantic academics living in the illusion of their superior theory
(and probably creating death camps in the process).

These school of life videos make a great model for student projects,
    assessments and projects.

First of all im not ‘anti Rawls’ guy… To me the ‘veil of ignorance’ is a
good way to inspire good actions and a good oposition to libertarianism.
But i don’t think that Rawls thinking is ‘bullet proof’ as you suggest. Its
true that we would choose to born in an ‘equal’ society if we don’t know
where we will be born and this is a good perception that legislators must
take in account, but don’t answer all the questions. After a talented
person are born he (or she) will need incentives to use all of his (or her)
potential and in using this potential he (or she) will help all society
with voluntary exchanges (non zero sum), if someonoe’s wealthy is built
with billions of voluntary exchanges is easy to see his (or her) benefits
but hard to see the billions of small benefits that he (or she) had made to
other people, what is said about talent could be said about hard work of
course. a) About inequality: Most of big fortunes is invested capital that
can’t be directly used by the owner, even if you take a planned economy you
will need to ‘immobilize’ most of the wealth to produce consumer goods for
the majority of the population. About inequalities: I’m more a ‘social
democratic european’ than an ‘american capitalist’ but is unfair to compare
inequalities between a much bigger population (as the US) with on little
one (like Norway). And of course Equality isn’t the only way to take in
    account (see the a argument).

This video series is awesome. From reading some of the comments, I see
ignorance is alive and well. A selfish, shallow and superficial society.
Yep, that’s what Capitalism gave us.

The School of Life 在 Youtube
    推出了一系列短片,用淺顯生動的方式來介紹文史哲社大家的生平及思想摘要,例如孔子、奧古斯丁、馬克思、韋伯、羅爾斯等等。
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-JQ17X6VNg

About poverty: lots of poverty exist because people who can no afford
having children are multiplying; are they ignorant? Yes, do they have a
veil? NO. PS: The veil of ignorance is a good exercise to a better
society. (Thanks to Alain de Botton and his team for the School of life.

Sorry, but I can see the problems without the veil of ignorance. Does this
guy have any other “great” ideas?
The biggest problem with this is that, we’re pretty privileged across the
board and I wouldn’t mind being born in any civilized society. The only
thing that remains to change imo is to redistribute the power more equally
maybe with higher taxes on wealth. I would not change the class
structure… I would of simply made the class disparity less …
    outrageous.
